Women's JV Hangs Tough in 62-58 loss to JCCC

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn women's junior varsity basketball team suffered a close loss Thursday, falling at the hands of Johnson County Community College 62-58.

The loss to the Cavaliers snapped a four-game winning streak, but not without a fight. After losing to the Cavaliers by 28 in their first meeting, the Ichabods played tight defense to keep the game close throughout. The Ichabods forced 20 JCCC turnovers and held the Cavaliers to just 41 percent shooting.

Offensively, the frontcourt carried the load for the Ichabods. Jordan Lenherr led the way with 25 points on 9-16 shooting, while Hayley Thompson added 18 on 9-17 shooting. The two forwards contributed 18 of the team's 24 made field goals and 43 of the Ichabods' 58 points. Lenherr made the lone 3-pointer of the night for the Ichabods.

Entering the fourth quarter, Washburn held a 48-47 lead and led with as little as 4:27 remaining in the game. The Cavaliers were able to pull away, scoring the final six points of the game and holding the Ichabods scoreless through the closing stretch.

The 4-7 Ichabods will take on the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) for the first part of their two-game series Monday. The Spires are 9-10 on the year.
