Washburn falls to No. 11 Central Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. -- Washburn soccer faced off against No. 11 Central Oklahoma on Sunday and became one of just three teams to score a goal on the Bronchos this season after Jasmine Palmer's second half goal. Central Oklahoma (14-0, 7-0 MIAA), however, remains undefeated after topping Washburn 7-1. The Ichabods now hold a record of 6-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the MIAA.

Central Oklahoma's offense entered the match outscoring opponents 44-3 and they attacked early to score first against Washburn. Asha Haile scored in the 12th minute on an assist from Katie Killion to give the Bronchos a 1-0 lead. UCO scored again in the 24th and 41st minute to extend their lead to 3-0 at the half.

UCO outshot WU 10-4 in the first half and also led in shots on goal, 8-2. Olivia Grasso and Paige Swanson each took a shot on goal.

Washburn offense was stifled in the second half and was held without a shot until the 83rd minute while Central Oklahoma scored three additional goals. Camille Denis got a shot off that went just wide of the goal, but a foul by UCO shortly after allowed WU to regain possession. Kristen Burns had a shot on goal in the 84th minute, but it was held on to by the Bronchos.

After UCO scored its final goal of the match in the 87th minute, the Ichabods answered with a goal of their own a minute later. A foul by the Bronchos set up a free kick for the Ichabods 40 yards out. Kati Sneegas launched the ball towards the net and UCO's keeper went out to stop it, but she was unable to handle it and the ball got away. Jasmine Palmer was running in towards the goal and collected the ball off the rebound and kicked it in from the right side of the box.

Central Oklahoma finished the game with 21 shots to Washburn's seven. The Bronchos also led in shots on goal, 16-4.

Putting Washburn on the board, Palmer scored her first career goal for the Ichabods. In net, Bailee Russell held on to nine saves.

The Ichabods will have a three game home stand starting Friday, Oct. 19 against Central Missouri. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tilt.
