TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn Ichabod baseball team claimed a 2-1 series lead on Saturday as it swept Truman State in a doubleheader, winning game one 6-5 before shutting out the Bulldogs (1-2) in game two 10-0. With the result, the Ichabods improved to 5-4 on the year with the series finale slated for Sunday at noon.

Game 1: Washburn 6, Truman 5
The Ichabods fell behind early in the opener as Truman State plated four runs in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Washburn pushed one across in the third, only to have TSU answer back with a run in the top half of the fourth before WU replied by tacking a four-spot of its own to tie the game at 5-5.

The rally began with a two-run shot from
Josh Crosby as he belted third home run of the season. Three batters later,
Jake Bublitz crossed home to make it 5-4 as he driven in by
Joel Spain.
Bailey Jenkins then scored the tying run as
Jake Hahn rapped a two-out single through the right side.

Scoreless through the next two and half innings,
Darian Abram began the Washburn half of the seventh with double to left center, before a sacrifice bunt from
Bowe Behymer allowed him to advance the third.
Javis Larson then registered the game-winning RBI as he brought Abram across with single to shallow center.

In spite of tossing just the seventh, reliever
Zach Linquist was credited with the win. Washburn starter
Nick Sloan allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out two in four innings of work.

Game 2: Washburn 10, Truman 0
Washburn exploded for five runs in the third and never looked back as it notched its first shutout victory at Falley Field since March 11, 2016.

The Ichabods used the long ball to get on the board early as Behymer led off the inning with a solo home run before Crosby followed suit to make it 2-0. After recording the inning's second out,
Brady Hoover, Jenkins, and
Steven Jacobson were each pushed across making it 5-0. Washburn then added to its advantage with a three-run sixth before invoking the run rule in seventh.

Starter
Tanner Strickbine was awarded with the first victory as baffled Bulldog hitters striking out eight of 21 batters faced, while surrendering just three hits in six innings.
Trevor Marreel took the mound for one inning of hitless relief with two strikeouts.

Behymer went 4 for 8 for the day at the plate including a 3 for 5 outing in game two. Abram, Larson, Jacobson each went 2 for 4 in game two. Crosby finished the twin bill with three hits, two home runs, three RBI in six trips to the plate. Â
