EDMOND, Okla. --- Late timely hitting eluded the Washburn Ichabod baseball team on Saturday as it dropped a tough 3-2 decision in 10 innings to Central Oklahoma in the series opener. Originally scheduled to be played at Falley Field, the series was relocated to Edmond due to inclement winter weather in Topeka, nonetheless the Ichabods retained the ability for last at-bats due to conference rules.
Brady Hoover accounted for Washburn's first run of the afternoon and tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth when he notched his third home run of season. Washburn scored again in the seventh when
Jake Hahn made it 2-2 thanks to a RBI single to center by
Bailey Jenkins.
After being limited to just one base runner during the eighth and nine inning, the Ichabods started the 10th in good position as
Darian Abram and
Bowe Behymer each reached to lead off the inning. Abram then put himself into scoring position as consecutive passed balls allowed him to advance to third. The next three WU batters however were retired in order to end.
Central Oklahoma scored in the second, sixth and top of the 10th.Â

Josh Ramirez had a strong outing as he worked seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Ramirez struck out seven and only walked two.
Zach Linquist was dealt the loss as he tossed 2 2/3 with one run on two hits.
Trevor Marreel made a 1/3-inning relief appearance.
Collectively, Washburn combined for seven hits and stranded nine on the base paths.
The series will resume on tomorrow in Edmond with game two scheduled for 1 pm.
