DURANT, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabods softball team split its final day of action at the Southeastern Oklahoma State Invitational topping Rockhurst 5-2 before falling to Cameron 4-2. Overall the Ichabods were 5-1 over six games and will return to action next weekend at the Central Oklahoma/Oklahoma Christian Invite for five games starting Friday.
Game 1 – Washburn 5, Rockhurst 2
The Ichabods broke open a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the third off RBI singles by
Emilee Baker and
Alyssa Carney scoring
Morgan Henry and
Maddie Anderson. A solo home run by the Hawks cut the lead in half, but the Ichabods scored one in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Carney which scored
Courtney Todd putting Washburn up 3-1.
Rockhurst scored one in the sixth, but a pinch hit 2-run homer by
Brianna Francis scored
Taylor Kirk who led off the inning with single stretched the lead to 5-2.
Kelsee Henry improved to 3-0 pitching four innings and
Lexi Crabtree picked up the save tossing three innings.
Game 2 – Cameron 4, Washburn 2
Cameron scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie the score at 1-1 and would score three more in the top of the eighth leading to the 4-2 win. Washburn got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning on a double by Baker which scored
Samantha Stallbaumer.
In the eighth after Cameron scored three times, Washburn scored once in the bottom of the inning on an RBI from Stallbaumer but it was not enough as the Ichabods fell for the first time this season.
