PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabods moved to 17-6 and 5-1 in the MIAA after sweeping a doubleheader at Pittsburg State winning game one 7-4 before picking up a 11-1 run rule win in game two. The Ichabods will be back in action on March 16-18 at the Missouri Western Regional Crossover in St. Joseph, Mo.
Game 1 – Washburn 7, Pittsburg State 4
The Ichabods jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after a
Savannah Moore single scored
Emilee Baker who tripled in the inning. Pittsburg State tied the score in the bottom of the frame and then the Ichabods went up 3-1 after an RBI single by Baker and an RBI ground out by
Taylor Kirk.
Washburn added two more in the fifth inning one RBI by
Alyssa Carney and Moore stretching the Ichabod lead to 5-1 and in the sixth, the Ichabods added two more in the top of the sixth on another RBI single by Baker and a sac fly by Moore.
Pittsburg State added three more in the bottom of the sixth but did not get any closer as the Ichabods picked up the win in the opener.
Baker and Moore each have three hits and Moore drove in three and Baker had 2 RBI in the win.
Kelsee Henry moved to 8-3 on the season in the circle and
Lexi Crabtree pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to wrap up the win.
Game 2 – Washburn 11, Pittsburg State 1 (6 innings)
The Ichabods scored three solo runs in each of the first three innings after an RBI by Lenea Salinas, an unearned run in the second and an RBI single by Moore. Washburn broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning and a four-run fifth inning highlighted back a pair of 3-run homers by
Savannah Moore in each inning.
Moore's 7 RBI tied a school record adding three hits in the win and
Megan Deiter struck out 10 moving to 7-0 in the circle for the Ichabods.
In the twin bill, Moore was 6 for 7 with 10 RBI and two home runs to lead the Ichabods and Baker and Stallbaumer each had four hits.
