GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – The No. 21 Washburn men's tennis team fell 7-2 to Nebraska-Kearney on a day where senior
Blake Hunter made school history.
In doubles action,
Alejandro Valarezo and Hunter won their match out of the No. 1 slot, 8-3. The victory gave
Blake Hunter his 83rd career doubles win, setting school record. That was the only doubles match the Ichabods were able to win, giving the Lopers a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
The duals match was much closer than the final score indicated, as four of the six singles matches went to three sets. After Valarezo won his No. 1 singles match, remaining undefeated in duals play, each of the next five matches were taken by the Lopers.
The Ichabods are now 6-2, and will look to get back in the win column when they take on Oberlin College. The match will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, in Orlando, Florida, part of a two-match stint there.
