TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ---Â The Washburn bats were swinging in the series finale against Northeastern State on Sunday as it notched eight hits, but the Ichabods (6-16, 1-11 MIAA) were unable to convert those into runs as they fell, 4-1, to the RiverHawks (14-10, 6-6 MIAA).
Javis Larson and Bowe Behymer each tallied a pair of hits with Behymer going 2-for-3, while Larson was 2-for-5. Josh Crosby, Steve Jacobson, Ryne Ryskoski, and Cole Emerson filled out the balance with a hit apiece.Â
Behymer accounted for the lone Ichabod run as the senior infielder opened the sixth inning with a lead-off home run, his fourth of the year.Â
The RiverHawks made the most of the breezy conditions and utilized the long ball. NSU posted a two-run home run in the second to open the scoring, before a solo shot in the fourth made it 3-0.Â
Following the solo blast from Behymer in the top half of the sixth, Northeastern State struck again in the bottom half of the stanza with a solo home run for itself to regain a three-run lead.
Ichabod starter Sam Carver was charged with the loss as surrendered four runs on nine hits with no walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work. Nathan Lorenzen was effective as he tossed the final two frames allowing just one hit with zero runs.
Washburn will continue its tour of the Sooner State on Monday in Durant, when it takes on Southeastern Oklahoma State in the series finale. The Ichabods lead the season series 2-1. First pitch is slated for 2 pm.
