TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's tennis team suffered another close conference loss Sunday, falling 5-4 to Southwest Baptist.

The Ichabods had success in doubles, taking two of three matches. The No. 1 team of Logan Morrissey and Alexis Czapisnki improved to 11-1 on the season with their 8-5 win over the Bearcats No. 1 team. Jacqueline Engelbrecht and Alysha Nowacki won out of the No. 2 spot, 8-6.

Singles play is where the Ichabods started to falter, as the Bearcats took four of six of those matches, including the first three. Engelbrecht gave the Ichabods hope, winning in a tough, three-set match out of No. 3 singles and cutting the Bearcats' lead to 4-3, but SBU was able to clinch the win in the very next match. MaKenna Gonzales took the final match of the day.

With the loss, the Ichabods drop to 7-5 on the year, 3-2 in conference play. The Ichabods will have a two day trip to Oklahoma next, starting at 2 p.m. Friday when they take on Northeastern State in Tahlequah. For more information on the 2017-18 women's tennis season, visit wusports.com.
