TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Washburn women's tennis team fell to .500 in conference play after losing to No. 5 Northeastern State, 6-3.
The Ichabods started out with a 2-1 advantage after doubles, winning the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. The team of Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey, ranked No. 11 in the nation, improved to 12-1 in duals play, while the team of MaKenna Gonzales and Madison Lysaught took down the RiverHawks' No. 3 team in a tiebreaker, winning 9-8 (8-6).
In singles action, only one Ichabods' player managed to score a decision, as Jacqueline Engelbrecht defeated the RiverHawks' No. 3 singles player Molly Worden 6-3, 6-3. The RiverHawks clinched the duals match with the second-to-last decision in No. 2 singles.
With the loss, the Ichabods move to 7-6 overall, 3-3 in the MIAA. The Ichabods will have another tough task at hand when they take on No. 6 Central Oklahoma. The match will be at noon Saturday in Edmond, Oklahoma. For more information on the 2017-18 women's tennis season, visit wusports.com.
