TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn men's tennis team extended one streak and broke another, as it took down the No. 16 Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 7-2 Wednesday.
The Ichabods won their sixth consecutive duals match, and beat the Bearcats for the first time since 2009.
The duals matches got things going for the Ichabods early, as they won two of three with a shifted lineup. The typical No. 2 team of
Chase Brill and
Paul Haase moved to No. 3, while
Tommy Hunter joined
Bradley Eidenmueller at No. 2. The No. 1 slot remained the same, as
Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and
Blake Hunter topped the Bearcats' No. 1 team 8-2.
Blake Hunter is now tied for the all-time lead in doubles victories for an Ichabod.
The Ichabods were able to clinch after the first wave of singles action, with Hunter winning out of the No. 2 spot in three sets as the official clinching victory. Brad Eidenmueller and
Raul-Alin Dicu added their own victories to sweeten the score in the Ichabods' favor.
At 6-1, the Ichabods will look to continue its success when they take on Nebraska-Kearney. They will take on the Lopers at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 16 in Kearney, Neb.
