BOLIVAR, Mo. --- The Washburn offense struggled on Friday in game one of its series with Southwest Baptist as registered seven hits and left seven stranded in a 5-2 loss at Dodson Field in Bolivar, Mo.
Due to the high likelihood of precipitation for Sunday, the series will be concluded with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 with first-pitch now slated for 12 pm.
In spite getting charged with the loss Washburn (13-28, 7-23 MIAA) starter
Josh Ramirez had a workman-like outing as he held Southwest Baptist to four hits during the opening five frames including a hitless third.
Ramirez's day came to an end after five and two-thirds innings as Southwest Baptist got to him with a five run sixth as he finished with five runs against on nine hits with five strikeouts.
Scoreless to begin the sixth,
Josh Crosby (1-for-4) extended his extra base streak to six consecutive games with a lead-off home run for his 12th of the season.
Jake Bublitz (1-for-4) then added to the Ichabod cause in the ninth with a solo shot for his fifth homer of the season.
Sam Carver and
Braden Larkey were both efficient in their relief appearances as they held the Bearcats scoreless for the final inning and a third while giving up just two hits.
With singles in the second and ninth innings,
Jake Hahn (2-for-4) was the lone Ichabod with multiple hits while five others made up the balance with one each.
