Lady Bison pull away in second half

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods fell 4-1 in its home opener against the Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison. With the loss, Washburn is at an even 2-2 on the season.

OBU struck first and scored just eight minutes into the game. Abigail Parker netted the goal and was assisted by Jennifer Goethe and Hannah White.

As time in the first half was winding down, Olivia Grasso got some help from Ryanne Serrone-Brown and tied the game for the Ichabods. Grasso's goal in the 42nd minute was her first of the season.

With the score knotted 1-1 at halftime, WU had outshot OBU 6-4 and also led in shots on goal 5-3.

The Lady Bison took over control of the second half and quickly put the game out of reach from the Ichabods. OBU's White scored in the 56th minute and was assisted by Ruth King. Just five minutes later, Kerregan Edwards netted an unassisted goal to put the OBU ahead 3-1. The final goal of the game was in the 78th minute by Kelsi Mensen and assisted by Tori Kitchel.

Both teams ended the game with nine shots apiece, but WU led in shots on goal 7-6.

Washburn will travel for two road games next week. The Ichabods take on the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers on Friday, Sept. 14 and the Emporia State Hornets on Sunday, Sept. 16.
