WICHITA, Kan. -- The fifth-ranked Ichabod volleyball team recorded a season-high .411 attacking percentage in the dominant shutout victory at Newman Friday evening. The Ichabods improve to 12-1 (4-1 MIAA) while the Jets remain winless at 0-15 (0-6 MIAA).
The Jets grabbed two early leads to start the match, going up 3-1 and then 6-5, before Washburn broke a 7-7 tie and never trailed again.
Genna Berg landed all four kills in an Ichabod 4-1 scoring run to give Washburn a 13-9 lead. Washburn continued its momentum and closed out the frame scoring 10 of the final 12 points in the 25-14 set victory.
Allison Maxwell set the tone for the second set with the first kill as the Ichabods would finish with a scorching .464 hitting percentage.
Erica Montgomery sparked a 7-1 rally to push the Ichabods' lead to double-digits at 14-4.
Kelsey Gordon and Maxwell registered the final two kills in the 25-11 win.
Newman had two quick kills to start the third set and led 2-1, but the Ichabods responded with eight straight points to go up 9-2. The scoring streak included four Washburn kills, a block by
Taylor Antonowich and Gordon, and three consecutive errors committed by Newman. The Ichabods hit .423 and cruised to a 25-7 final set victory to seal their 10th sweep of the season.
Washburn finished with 43 kills on 95 attempts with four errors for a season-best .411 attacking percentage while holding Newman to 22 kills on 99 swings with 12 errors for a .101 percentage.Â
Three Ichabods finished in double-digit kills, led by Berg and Gordon who each recorded 11 kills. Gordon finished with a nearly perfect total, going 11-for-13 with no errors for a career-best .846 hitting percentage. Berg recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she had 14 digs to go with her 11 kills. Montgomery hit .529 as she added 10 kills on 17 swings with one error.
Allison Sadler also finished with a double-double, her fifth of the season, with 33 assists and 11 digs. Antonowich had two of Washburn's six service aces.
Faith Rottinghaus led the team in digs with 17 total.
Washburn returns to the court tomorrow (Oct. 5) evening in Edmond, Okla., as the Ichabods will take on the Central Oklahoma Bronchos (12-4, 4-2 MIAA) at 7 p.m.
