Baseball drops MIAA opener at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The Washburn baseball team fell to Lindenwood, 7-2, on Friday afternoon in the series opener.

The Ichabod (5-5, 0-1 MIAA) bats struggled to push runners across as they left 11 on base, including 10 in scoring position. Lane Harvey tallied the game's opening run on a RBI double from Brady Hoover, before Steve Jacobson scored in the eighth on a double from Rorey Combs

Mitchell Lady finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate, while Jacobson and Xavier De Leon each drew a pair of walks.

Lindenwood (6-7, 1-0 MIAA) scored once in the third tying the game, 1-1, before taking the lead with a one-run fourth. From there the Lions extended their advantage with a two-run fifth and three-run seventh.

Josh Ramirez (2-1) got the start for the Ichabods. Ramirez was dealt his first loss of the season, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing four runs, two earned on eight hits with six strikeouts. Skyler Proctor worked the final two frames, surrendering three runs, none earned, on five hits.

Washburn will look to level the series tomorrow as it returns for game two of the series. Due to the prospect of rain in the forecast, first pitch Saturday from the Lou Brock Sports Complex has been pushed back to 3 pm.
