Baseball clipped by LIndenwood in late rally

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- Inconsistent production proved detrimental for the Washburn Ichabods on Saturday as they dropped game two of the series with Lindenwood, 9-4.

Washburn (5-6, 0-2 MIAA) took an early 1-0 in the first as Xavier De Leon parlayed a lead-off walk into the game's first run with help from Brady Hoover who poked a two-out single through the middle. Steven Jacobson advanced Hoover to second in the following at-bat but hopes of adding to the early margin were left unfilled as both stranded. Despite three runners in the second the Ichabod bats struggled as they were held hitless during the second and third.

Trailing 3-1 in the fourth, the Ichabods tied the game on a two-run single by Michael Oyervides with a hit up the middle. Mitchell Lady and Mark Wanner each scored on the play after reaching on back-to-back singles. Lane Harvey then provided the go-ahead run for the Ichabods in the fifth as Javis Larson scored on a sac fly.

After a quiet sixth, the Ichabods threatened to add to the lead in the top half of the seventh. Bailey Jenkins got the offense going, drawing his second one-out walk of the day before Larson and Harvey joined him to load the bases. With two outs, Washburn though came up empty, as it stranded six runners on the day.

Lindenwood (7-7, 2-0 MIAA) took the lead with a three-run second. It then used a four-run seventh to regain its advantage before tacking on two more in the eighth.

Ichabod starter Jacob Head tossed three innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out two. Reliever Brock Gilliam (1-2) was dealt the loss as he worked 3 1/3 innings with four runs, two earned, on four hits.

Washburn returns for the series finale tomorrow, slated for 1 pm.
