ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- The Washburn bats came alive on Sunday as it outhit Lindenwood, 11-6, en route to a sound, 12-2, victory in the series finale. Washburn (6-6, 1-2 MIAA) tallied hits from eight different batters with seven different runners crossing home for runs.
Â
Ichabod starter
Nick Sloan (3-0) was stout in his performance and credited with the win, tossing 6 2/3 innings with two runs on six hits with zero walks and seven strikeouts and twice retired the side in order. Relievers
Brandon Gabler and
Trevor Marreel combined worked the balance of the nine-inning affair with neither surrendering not as much as a walk, let alone a hit or run during their respective outing.
Â
Washburn scored twice in the first before Lindenwood (6-7, 2-1 MIAA) pulled one back in the bottom half of the frame. The Ichabods then scored four unearned runs in the second and third innings, to extend their lead to 6-1. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Lions scratched across a run to make it 6-2.
Â
In the sixth,
Mark Wanner then drove in
Lane Harvey to make it 8-2 after
Brady Hoover scored on throwing error. Scoreless in the next two frames, Washburn put the game away with a four-run ninth.
Â
Javis Larson led the Ichabod offense as he went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs, two doubles and added steals in first and fifth innings.
Mitchell Lady and Harvey each finished with three runs scored and a run batted-in. Lady's RBI came in the game in the second as he pushed
Xavier De Leon across, while Harvey doubled down the line in the ninth scoring
Braden Kirkpatrick.
Â
Despite a 1-for-4 day, Hoover accounted for three Washburn runs, as he doubled in the second for a two-run RBI before touching home himself in the sixth. In the ninth, Kirkpatrick recorded his first career hit with a pinch-hit double to left to score Larson and Lady.
Â
The Ichabods will return to action next weekend as they are scheduled to host Pittsburg State.
