Bats struggle in series finale loss to Mules

WARRENSBURG, Mo. --- The offense never got going on Saturday as the Washburn Ichabod baseball team was out hit 14-3, in a 9-1 loss to Central Missouri at Crane Stadium at Tompkins Field. With the result, the Ichabods slip to 11-13 on the year and 6-9 in conference action.

Washburn starter Brock Gilliam (0-3) was dealt the loss, throwing 5 1/3 innings with four runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out three. Nathan Lorenzen worked 1 2/3 innings, while Jonathan Walker made his debut in the eighth.

The lone Ichabod run was scored in the sixth as Xavier De Leon was driven across on a single to right from Brady Hoover. De Leon reached on a lead-off double down the right field line before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Steven Jacobson.

Mitchell Lady also recorded hit on the day as he singled during the third. Michael Oyervides drew the team's only walk in the second was Lane Harvey was hit by a pitch in the fourth.

A Washburn error in the second proved costly as the Mules took a 2-0 lead in the second. Central Missouri then scored twice more in the sixth and seventh, respectively, before pushing three across in the eighth.

The Ichabods are scheduled to make their season debut at Falley Field on Tuesday, March 25 when they host Baker at 6 pm. Washburn will then continue its scheduled nine-game MIAA road trip with a three-game weekend series at Northwest Missouri.
