TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn Ichabod baseball team opened its 2019 home schedule in winning fashion on Tuesday evening, thumping Baker, 17-5, while registering 20 hits for the first time since April 3, 2016.
When the dust settled, 12 different Ichabods tallied a hit with 14 different runners crossing home.
Peter Shearer led the way as he drove in three runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Lane Harvey was 3-for-3 at the dish with one RBI.
Javis Larson had two RBI and went 4-for-4 in the effort.
Bailey Jenkins,
Steven Jacobson and
Wyatt Featherston also finished with two RBI apiece.
Xavier De Leon extended his hit streak to a season-best seven games as he was 2-for-3 at the plate, while
Brady Hoover's double in the first pushed his consecutive game hit streak to six streak.
The Ichabods took an early 3-0 lead after the first then proceeded to add one run in the second, four in the third before plating seven in the fourth to take a 15-1 lead. Baker scored once in the second and four in the sixth. Washburn capped the scoring with a two-run sixth.

Trevor Marreel (1-2) has a strong outing, going 4 2/3 innings allowing one run on three hits en route to earning his first career victory. The righty sparkled early retiring the first three batters by way of strikeout before finishing the day with six total.
Washburn is scheduled to return to the road on this weekend with MIAA action against Northwest Missouri. The opener of the three-game set with the Bearcats is slated Friday at 3 pm.
