TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 8 Washburn women's tennis team captured their seventh-straight victory on Saturday evening as they defeated No. 26 Augustana (S.D.) by the score of 5-2. The Ichabods improve to 12-1 (3-0 MIAA) and the Vikings fall to 13-2. 

The dual match started with a highly contested doubles competition, with two of the three matches decided by a tiebreaker. Jacqueline Engelbrecht and Svea Crohn blanked their opponents for a quick 6-0 victory on the second court. At No. 3, Kinsey Fields and Maria Soler Valverde powered through a 7-6 (7-1) win to claim the doubles point for Washburn. The sixth-ranked doubles duo in the nation, Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey, narrowly lost to the third-ranked Division II team of Kornelia Staniszewska/Laura Arce Vieyra, 7-6 (7-5).

In singles competition, the Vikings took the first point at the top of the order. At No. 2, Czapinski answered with a 6-3, 6-1 decision. She is now an extraordinary 13-0 this spring and 17-2 overall. Augustana tied up the match again with a victory on court No. 3.

With the match tied 2-2, the Ichabods finished strong and claimed the final three matches en route to their 5-2 victory. Crohn topped her opponent 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Soler Valverde clinched the win at with her 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win at the fourth slot. Crohn is now 9-4 this spring and Soler Valverde improves to 9-2 and is 8-0 when playing at No. 4. Madison Lysaught wrapped up the scoring for Washburn with her 6-2, 6-2 triumph. She is 7-4 for the spring season.

The Ichabods will have a short turnaround in between matches as they are set to travel to Missouri tomorrow (March 24) to play an MIAA midday match against Missouri Western. The dual is scheduled to start at noon at the Genesis Health Center in St. Joseph, Mo.
