JOPLIN, Mo. --- A late rally in the ninth inning fell short for the Washburn baseball team on Saturday, dropping game two, 12-9, to Missouri Southern in MIAA action.

Offensively,
Lane Harvey led the way with doubles in the first, eighth and ninth while scoring once in the eighth and driving in two runs.
Brady Hoover doubled in the fifth before registering a three-run blast for his fifth home run of the season during the third.

Xavier De Leon finished the day with three runs, scoring in the first, third and ninth. He also finished with a pair of RBI pushing two across in the ninth with single through the right side.

Steven Jacobson finished one RBI in the eighth and two runs, scoring in the third before tallying an unearned run in the fifth, giving the Ichabods a 5-4 lead.
Michael Oyervides and
Kolton Meyer also finished with with a run apiece as they were pushed across in the ninth.

The Lions scored once in the first and third with two in the second. After being held scoreless in the fourth and fifth, they jumped out front behind a five-run sixth before taking on three more in the eighth.

Washburn reliever
Trevor Marreel was dealt the loss, surrendering two runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings of work. Starter
Jacob Head threw four innings, allowing four runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
Jared Sharp appeared for the seventh and eighth while
Brandon Gabler recorded an out in the sixth.
