TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team split its final two home games of the season taking game one from Fort Hays State 11-2 in five innings before falling in the second game 6-4. The Ichabods (22-20, 13-5 MIAA) will have their next eight games on the road to end the regular season with MIAA twin bills at Northeastern State, Central Oklahoma, Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri. The MIAA Tournament starts on May 2 in Edmond, Oklahoma at Central Oklahoma's softball complex.
Game 1 - WU 11, FHSU 2 (5 innings)
Washburn seniors drove in 8 of the 11 runs in the 11-2 win in the opener.
After the Tigers took a 2-0 lead on a pair of solo home runs, Washburn remained scoreless until the fourth when the Ichabods scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.
Winter Henry led off the inning with a triple and then came home on a single by
Taylor Kirk. A pinch-hit single by
Maddie Stipsits scored Kirk tying the score at 2-2.
Samantha Stallbaumer singled on a but sending Stipsits home as the Ichabods went 3-2.
In the fifth, the flood gates opened as the Ichabods scored eight times capped by a senior day walkoff by
Savannah Moore as Moore's bases-loaded blast to right center ended the game as the Ichabods sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning.
After a single by Moore to lead off the inning, a double by Henry and a walk to Kirk.
Ashley Ruder drove in two runs with a double to right center and Stipsits singled to right scoring two more runs. Nack to back singles by Stallbaumer and Fuchs loaded the bases leading to Moore's senior day heroics.
Raegen Hamm picked up the win moving to 12-10 on the season allowing the two hits in the win striking out two.
Ruder finished with three hits and 2 RBI while Moore had two hits and 4 RBI.
Game 2 – FHSU 6, WU 4
In the second game, the Tigers took advantage of three Ichabod errors leading to two unearned runs as the Tigers gained a split with the win.
Fort Hays State (17-19, 10-10 MIAA) scored a solo run in both the second and fourth innings and added two more in the fifth and sixth innings taking a 6-0 lead in to the bottom of the sixth where the Ichabods got on the board with three runs trimming the lead in half.
In the bottom of the sixth, after
Brianna Fuchs led off the inning with a single, she would score on a single by
Winter Henry and after a double by
Taylor Kirk, Henry scored as the throw entered the Tiger duguout.

In the seventh, Washburn added one more when Henry doubled down the left field line scoring Fuchs who singled. Washburn was able to get two more on base in scoring position but was unable to score any more in the two-run loss.
Fuchs, Henry and Kirk each had two hits in the game to lead the ichabods
Bailey Zuniga took the loss allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts.
