TOPEKA, Kan. --- After averaging nine runs over the last six games, the offense fell out of sync on Thursday as Washburn baseball (19-18, 11-14 MIAA) dropped the series opener, 11-3, with Emporia State (25-15, 16-9 MIAA) at Falley Field, ending a six-game win streak.

Washburn hitters stranded 12 runners including two bases loaded situation as they were out hit 11-7.

Brady Hoover finished the day hitting 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI, while
Michael Oyervides and
Steven Jacobson each drew a pair of walks.

Hoover opened the scoring early during the first with a two-run blast for his 10
th home run of the run of the season. Washburn was then held off the board until
Rorey Combs came around in the ninth on a
Peter Shearer RBI double.

Trailing 2-0, Emporia State tallied back-to-back three-run home runs in the second and third to assume a 6-2 advantage. From there, the Hornets scored two in the fifth and push one run in during the fourth, sixth, and eighth, respectively.

Washburn starter
Josh Ramirez (4-4) was dealt the loss, surrendering nine runs on eight hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Relievers
Jake Butterfield (1.1 IP) and Skyler Procter (1.1 IP) each conceded a run in their respective appearances, while
Ramon Monje worked a scoreless 1.2 innings.
