Ichabod softball team knocked off in sweep by Griffons

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods committed nine errors leading to six unearned runs including all three in the second game in a doubleheader at Missouri Western aiding the Griffons to the sweep. Washburn (24-24, 15-9 MIAA) will wrap up the regular season at Northwest Missouri on Saturday.


Game 1 - MWSU 7, WU 2
The Ichabods committed six errors in the opening game leading to three unearned runs in a 7-2 loss in the opening game.

Missouri Western scored in its first at bat jumping out to a 1-0 lead and then scored two more in the fourth before the Ichabods got on the board with two runs in the fifth. Washbur's Kameron Kissinger doubled and then following a single by Ashley Ruder, Brianna Fuchs' double cut the lead to 3-2. However the Griffons hadded three in the bottom of the fifth and added another in the sixth en route to the win.

Samantha Stallbaumer and Fuchs each had two hits including both hitting a triple. Bailey Zuniga pitched five innings allowing three earned runs.


Game 2 - MWSU 3, WU 2 (9 innings)
In the second game, Washburn took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Winter Henry scoring Brianna Fuchs staking the Ichabods to the early lead.

The Griffons scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. However, a two-out, RBI single by Fuchs scored Emilee Baker tying the score at 2-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Griffons scored the winning run on the Ichabods' second error of the game as Missouri Western picked up the sweep.

Fuchs and Taylor Kirk each had two hits in the nightcap. Raegan Hamm pitched all 8 1/3 innings in the game and did not allow an earned run striking out seven Griffons.
