MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader sweep over Northwest Missouri winning game one 4-1 and then taking the second 9-1 in six innings. Washburn will be the third seed in the upcoming MIAA Championships which will be played in Edmond, Okla.
Game 1 - WU 4, NWMSU 1
Washburn took advantage of one of four Bearcat errors in the second inning jumping out to a 2-0 lead when
Ashley Ruder picked up an RBI.
A solo run in the fifth on a sac fly by
Savannah Moore scoring
Brianna Fuchs who singled leading off the inning. The Bearcats cut the lead in half in the fifth with an unearned run, but Washburn came back with a solo run of its own on an RBI by Fuchs scoring
Maddie Stipsits who led off the frame with a double.
Bailey Zuniga (13-8) tossed the complete game allowing one unearned run allowing three hits.
Game 2 - WU 9, NWMSU 1 (5 innings)
Washburn scored five unearned runs taking advantage of three Bearcat wins rolling to the 9-1 win.
Washburn (26-24, 17-9 MIAA) scored in every inning with one in the first when
Samantha Stallbaumer stole home, two in the second on an RBI double by
Savannah Moore. In the third, an RBI single by
Ashley Ruder scored
Maddie Stipsits and in the fourth
Winter Henry's RBI single scored Moore who recorded a double.
The fifth inning Washburn scored three times with an RBI double by Fuchs after singles by Sienna Hall and Stallbaumer.
Washburn wrapped up the scoring with a solo run in the sixth on back to back doubles by Hall and
Bri Francis.
Raegen Hamm improved to 13-13 on the season giving up six hits and one run.
Stallbaumer had three hits in the second game and Moore,
Winter Henry and Hall each had two hits. Stallbaumer also scored three times.
