WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader at Central Missouri falling in extra innings 5-4 in the opener before taking the night cap 8-2 as
Brianna Fuchs was 5 for 7 with 5 RBI and
Samantha Stallbaumer had four hits in the twin bill. The Ichabods will be in action at Southwest Baptist with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. in Bolivar, Mo.
Game 1 – Central Missouri 5, Washburn 4
The Washburn Ichabods (18-18, 9-3 MIAA) scored three runs in the first inning and added a solo run in the second but a costly error in the bottom of the seventh sent the game to extra innings and the Jennies picked up the win with a 5-4 victory.
To lead off the game
Samantha Stallbaumer singled to center and then swiped second and moved to third on a single by
Brianna Fuchs. After Fuchs stole second,
Winter Henry picked up an RBI with a ground out and then
Taylor Kirk drove in Fuchs reaching on a fielder's choice.
Savannah Moore singled to left scoring Kirk putting Washburn up 3-0.
In the second, Fuchs drove in
Ashley Ruder with a single to center as the Ichabods went up 4-0.
The Mules added solo runs in the third and the fourth and another solo run in the six cutting the lead to 4-3. In the bottom of the seventh with two outs, the Jennies took advantage of a dropped fly ball by the Ichabods tying the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Jennies pushed across the winning run with a single with two outs sending UCM to the win in game one.
Fuchs had three hits in the opener and Stipsits and Stallbaumer each had two hits.
Game 2 – Washburn 8, Central Missouri 2
In game 2, the Ichabods gained a split with an 8-2 over the Jennies jumping out to a 3-0 lead after two innings adding four more in the fifth and another in the sixth in the win.
In the second inning, Washburn's
Brianna Fuchs cleared the bases with a 3-RBI triple after singles by
Bri Francis,
Maddie Stipsits and
Samantha Stallbaumer.
The fifth inning the Ichabods sent nine to the plate as
Taylor Kirk had a leadoff double and then scored on a single by
Halle England. After a walk by Francis, Sienna Hall reached on a fielder's choice and Fuchs drove in Francis with a single. Washburn wrapped up the scoring in the top of the sixth with a Kirk home run to center.
The Jennies came back with two in the bottom of the sixth cutting the scored to 8-2.
Bailey Zuniga picked up her eighth win of the season tossing 5 1/3 innings with an earned run and three strikeouts.
Kirk was 3 of 4 in the second game with an RBI and two runs scored and Fuchs drove in four in the game collecting two hits with two walks.
