BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team wrapped up a 3-1 weekend outscoring Southwest Baptist a combined 16-1 winning the opener 8-0 in five innings and 8-1 in game two. The Ichabods will face Nebraska-Kearney on Friday and Fort Hays State on Saturday at the Washburn Softball Complex.
Game 1 – Washburn 8, SBU 0
The Ichabods (20-18, 11-3 MIAA) took advantage of a Bearcat error scoring two runs as
Samantha Stallbaumer reached on the error to lead off the game and then stole second. She would came around to score on a triple by
Savannah Moore. Moore scored on a double by
Winter Henry as Washburn jumped out to the 2-0 lead.
In the third,
Taylor Kirk reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on a double by
Maddie Stipsits following a single by Henry.
Washburn pushed across five runs in the fifth sending 10 to the plate as back to back to back singles by Kirk, Henry and
Halle England, who picked up 2 RBI with her hit.
Kameron Kissinger drove in two with a double of her own and
Brianna Fuchs drove in Kissinger.
Raegen Hamm moved to 11-9 in the circle with four strikeouts scattering three hits retiring nine of the final Bearcat batters for the win.
Henry finished with three hits in the game and Stallbaumer and
Ashley Ruder had two hits apiece.
Game 2 – WU 8, SBU 1
Washburn took advantage of three Bearcat errors scoring four unearned runs rolling to the 8-1 win.
After a scoreless first two at bats, Washburn picked up four runs in the third as Ruder led off the inning with a single and then scored on a Fuchs single. Fuchs would score on a two-run homer by Moore. After Moore's at bat, Kirk sent a home run to right field.
In the fourth, Washburn scored three unearned runs as Henry drove in a run with a single.
Washburn added a solo run in the seventh on another error by the Bearcats as
Morgan Henry scored on an RBI single by Moore.
Bailey Zuniga (9-6) tossed five innings allowing two hits and an earned run with three strikeouts and Hamm came in the game and pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
For the twin bill,
Winter Henry, Stallbaumer and Moore each had four hits and Kirk scored three runs with three hits.
