TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 6 Washburn women's tennis team recovered after dropping the doubles point and edged past No. 7 Central Oklahoma (12-3, 6-1 MIAA) with four singles victories to clinch the 4-3 senior day victory Saturday afternoon. The Ichabods extended their winning streak to 12 and snapped the Bronchos' 11 match streak. With the win, Washburn improves to 17-1 overall and 7-0 in MIAA action.
The Bronchos won the first doubles match on court three, 6-2. The fourth-ranked duo of
Alexis Czapinski and
Logan Morrissey answered with a dominant win over the 12th-ranked doubles team of Isabella Dunlap and Paola Landin at No. 1 doubles, 6-1. The doubles point came down to the match on court No. 2.
Jacqueline Engelbrecht and
Svea Crohn put up a good fight but ultimately fell, 4-6. It became just the second time all season Washburn has lost the doubles point.
Down 1-0, the Ichabods found their groove in singles and won the first three matches. Czapinski, who is ranked third in the nation, got back to her winning ways at No. 2 singles with a powerful 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 6-ranked Dunlap. Czapinski is now 17-1 in the regular season. Crohn recorded the same score, 6-2, 6-2, on the fifth court.
Madison Lysaught gave the Ichabods a 3-1 lead with her 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 6 singles.
The Bronchos cut the Ichabods' lead to one with their win at the top of the order. After dropping a close first set,
Maria Soler Valverde came back strong and won her 13th-straight match at No. 4 singles to clinch the impressive comeback win for the Ichabods.
Four Ichabod seniors were recognized before the match for their contributions to Washburn tennis.

MaKenna Gonzales, Czapinski, and Engelbrecht all made their final appearance in front of their home crowd.
The Ichabods wrap up their busy weekend tomorrow (Sunday, April 7) at Rockhurst. The match is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. at Loyola Park in Kansas City, Mo.
