KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The No. 6-ranked Washburn women's tennis team capped off a 4-0 week on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 non-conference victory over Rockhurst. The Ichabods posted their 13th-consecutive win and improved to 18-1 overall this season while the Hawks fell to 10-10.

The doubles point was decided by the final match played and it was Washburn who grabbed the early lead. Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey won at court No.1 by the score of 6-2. Rockhurst answered with a win of its own at No. 2 doubles. Playing together for the first time this spring, the Ichabod duo of Madison Lysaught and Maria Soler Valverde clinched the doubles point with a thrilling 7-5 victory.

The Ichabods claimed five of the six singles matches played. Czpainski got things started with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 2 singles. She is now 18-1 during the regular season in singles. At the top of the order, Jacqueline Engelbrecht won her match in twin sets 7-5, 7-5. Soler Valverde clinched the match for Washburn with her 14th-straight win at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0. The victory gives her a spring season record of 15-2 and is 21-4 overall this season. Svea Crohn shutout her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot. Lysaught completed the scoring for the Ichabods with a 6-3, 6-2 decision. She has now won six of her last seven matches.

The Ichabods will play a pair of MIAA road matches next week starting at Lindenwood on Friday, April 12, at 3 p.m. Washburn travels to Bolivar, Mo., the following day to take on Southwest Baptist with the match scheduled to begin at noon.
