TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ichabod soccer team shut out the William Jewell Cardinals 3-0 in Washburn's home opener Tuesday night. The team kept the Cardinals shotless for the first 18 minutes of the match. Three different Ichabods were able to find the back of the net in the first half.
In the first half the Ichabod offense started off strong. The team record seven shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of the game. Forward Halle Hill was the first to find the back of the net with an assist from Tera Lynch, at 21:23. Four minutes later, Lynch setup Mackenzie Menke for another goal to put the Ichabods at a 2-0 lead over the Cardinals.
Kati Sneegas led the defense in keeping the Cardinals to minimal chances. At 28:40 Sydney Rosemann scored the final goal for the Ichabods, with an assist from Sneegas.
All three Ichabods who scored recorded their first career goal.
At the half Washburn tallied 10 shots on goal and held William Jewell to zero.
In the second half both teams played aggressively. Josie Rimmer attempted two shots on goal, but could not connect. The Ichabod defense kept the Cardinals shotless for nine minutes. Both teams were scoreless in the second half of the match.
Freshman goalkeeper, Raegan Wells, recorded her first shutout of her collegiate career. She saved the lone Cardinals shot on goal attempt. Washburn outshot William Jewell 19-5, and tallied 13 shots on goal. The Ichabods will travel to Fort Hays State on Sunday, Sept. 12 to face the Colorado State - Pueblo Thunderwolves in a neutral site match. Kick off will be at 1 p.m.
