HAYS, Kan. -- The Washburn soccer team records another shut out this season. The Ichabods defeated Colorado State University - Pueblo 2-0 on Sunday, Sept. 15 in at Fort Hays State University. Washburn finished the match with eight shots and four of them on goal.
At the start of the first half the Ichabods hit the ground running.
Emily Michaelis scored the first goal for the squad at 5:00. Michaelis scored her first career goal off of a corner kick by
Paige Ledesma with an assist from
Kristen Burns.
A minute later
Josie Rimmer found the back of the back of the net to give the Ichabods a 2-0 lead over the Thunderwolves. Rimmer recorded her first goal of the season with the assist from
Tera Lynch.Â
The defensive line was led by Michaelis and
Kati Sneegas. The squad kept the Thundewolves to only three shots on goal.Â
Raegan Wells saved all three shots taken by CSU-Pueblo.Â
In the second half, both teams were scoreless. The Thunderwolves took eight shots on goal and Wells protected the net with six saves. Washburn offense could not find the back of the net but found four opportunities for shots. Lynch took three of the four shots taken in the second half. Wells recorded a career-high of nine saves at the end of the match.Â
The Washburn soccer team will return to Yager Stadium to face Nebrask-Kearney on Friday, Sept. 20 at 6:00 p.m.
