TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn soccer tallied another shutout and win as the Ichabods defeated the Lopers 1-0 on Friday night. The lone goal was scored by sophomore midfielder,
Mackenzie Menke, in the 57th minute. The team led Nebraska-Kearney in shots on goal, 5-4.
It was a physical first half from both teams and the first half ended with no score.
Lauren Dietrick recorded two shots on goal in the first half.
Raegan Wells saved the one shot on goal the Lopers attempted. Nebraska-Kearney led in attempted shots, 5-4.
In the second half, the Ichabods took the first shot on goal, from
Tera Lynch, but could not find the back of the net. In the 57th minute,
Mackenzie Menke kicked the ball into the top left corner of the net from 30 yards out to give the Ichabods a 1-0 lead. Menke now has two goals on the season.
Sydney Rosemann recorded the assist on the score, her first of the season. Lynch recorded two shots on goal in the second half. Wells saved all three shots on goal taken by the Lopers to clinch her third consecutive shutout.
The Ichabods will play their first home MIAA conference match on Sun., Sept. 22 at 2:00 p.m. against Emporia State.
