Soccer falls short to Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. -- The Washburn Ichabod Soccer team fell to the Lady Bison of Oklahoma Baptist 2-1 in the season opener. 

Both teams found their way to the offensive side, each with two shots in the first 15 minutes of the game. OBU Lady Bison were the first to find the back of the net with a goal by Reagan Mann scoring off a penalty kick at 27:05. The Ichabod responded with a corner kick opportunity but could not follow through. 

Kati Sneegas and freshman Emily Michaelis led the back line for Washburn, helping the offense find more attacking opportunities. 

At 43:41 Olivia Grasso, with an assist  from Tera Lynch, netted one for the Ichabods late in the half to tie the match. The half ended with the Lady Bison leading the Ichabods in shots, 6-4. Raegan Wells faced six shots and saved two during the first half of her college career. 

At the start of the second half, both teams were ready to compete. The Ichabods did not slow down on offense, Halle Hill leading the attack with the first shot on goal. Josie Rimmer targeted the goal but could not find the net. Rimmer recorded four shots in the half. OBU goalkeeper, Emily Griffith, defended the net well with six saves. Tori Kitchel recorded four shots in four minutes for the Lady Bison. 

With both teams scoreless for the entirety of the half, the Lady Bison broke through. With less than a minute left, Kitchel found the back of the net helping the Lady Bison take the lead 2-1. The Ichabods finished the match with 11 shots and 8 shots on goal from five different players. Wells tallied six saves.

The Ichabods will return home to Yager Stadium to take on the William Jewell Cardinals on Tuesday Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
