BENTONVILLE, Arkansas – The Washburn Ichabod softball team used seventh inning rallies in both games today coming back for a pair of 6-5 wins on day one of the Eight State Classic in Bentonville, Ark. The Ichabods will wrap up the event with two more games on Sunday.
Game 1 – WU 6, Upper Iowa 5
The Ichabods worked into the ninth inning in the opener when Washburn scored two runs in the ninth inning when
Samantha Dutton drove in the go ahead runs in the 6-5 win. Washburn scored an unearned run in the fourth on a sac fly by
Brianna Fuchs. In the seventh, Washburn added two more on a 2-RBI single by
Kimi Patterson scoring
Jenna Moore and
Bri Francis. In the eighth, Washburn scored in the bottom of the eighth after the Peacocks went up 5-4.
Bailiey Zuniga picked up the win tossing four innings of relief.
Ellie Dixon had three hits and Dutton finished with two.
Game 2 – WU 6, Maryville 5
The Ichabods scored all six of their runs in the top of the seventh inning taking advantage of some Saints errors in the come-from-behind win. Washburn finished with four hits but took advantage of the four errors in the win.
Jenna Moore had two of Washburn's four hits in the game.
Raegen Hamm pitched six innings in relief striking out eight in the win.
