TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabods split a pair of games on Friday afternoon at the Washburn Softball Complex in games which were moved from Emporia State to Topeka because of unplayable field conditions. Washburn will continue play at 12:30 on Saturday facing Maryville and then facer Minnesota Duluth at 2:30 p.m.
Game 1 – Minnesota State 7, Washburn 1
After a scoreless first inning, the Mavericks (5-1) scored one run in the second and broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the third taking a 6-1 lead. Washburn got on the board in the top of the fourth with a solo run on a sac fly by
Bri Francis scoring
Jenna Moore who led off the inning with a single for the Ichabods' only run.
Washburn was limited to four hits in the game with Haley Kerschen recording a double and single.
Raegen Hamm took the loss striking out seven with one walk giving up six runs.
Game 2 – Washburn 5, Concordia-St. Paul 2
The Ichabods took advantage of three Golden Bears errors to roll to a 5-2 win in the second game of the day. The Golden Bears scored a run in the bottom of the first taking a 1-0 lead and the Ichabods came back with two unearned runs in the top of the second on a sac fly by
Ashton Friend and an RBI by
Brianna Fuchs. Washburn added another run in the third on an RBI single to left by
Hadley Kerschen scoring
Winter Henry who reached on a single.
Concordia-St. Paul added another run in the fifth cutting the Ichabod lead to 3-2, but in the seventh, Francis connected on a two-out, 2 RBI double to left scoring Henry and Sienna Hall who both singled.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Raegen Hamm closed the door as Washburn (6-8) picked up the win. Hamm tossed four innings in relief for the win improving to 4-3 on the season striking out seven.
