Baseball splits series with Regis

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn baseball team split the four-game series against Regis as the Ichabods fell at home in the series finale on Sunday, 16-4. The Ichabods now have a record of 8-8 while the Rangers move to 4-6.

The Rangers started off the game with three runs on two hits while the Ichabods committed two errors. Washburn got two runs back in the home half of the first to make it 3-2. Xavier De Leon led off with a single to right center and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brett Ingram reached on an error and then advanced to second while De Leon scored. Parker Dunn was hit by the first pitch of his at bat to take first base. During the next at bat, a passed ball moved Ingram up to third and then he scored on the throw down to second as Dunn successfully swiped the bag.

Regis scored three runs in the third and fourth innings to go up 9-2. They added four more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to extend their lead to 14-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mitchell Lady came on as a pinch hitter and reached first base on a wild pitch strikeout. Michael Oyervides also pinch hit and was plunked by the first pitch to move Lady into scoring position. A walk to Cole Emerson loaded the bases and Kros Bay's sacrifice fly scored Lady. Two-straight walks plated their second run of the inning to make it 14-4.  That would be all the scoring for Washburn while Regis added two more runs in the ninth.

The Ichabods will stay at home to start conference play against Missouri Western on Friday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m.
