TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn men's tennis team defeated McKendree, 6-1, on Saturday in their first home match of the season. The Ichabods are now 1-2 and the Bearcats are 5-2.

Washburn took two out of three matches in the doubles competition to go up 1-0. Paul Haase and Chase Brill posted a 6-1 win on court one and the tandem of Raul-Alin Dicu/Bradley Eidenmueller clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 decision at the No. 2 spot.

Eidenmueller started off singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot. Dicu followed that up with a 6-4, 7-5 decision on court two. At No. 5, Brill defeated his opponent with a pair of 6-2 set scores. Miquel Perez lost the first set at No. 4 singles, but came back to win the next two 6-3, 6-4. Haase grinded out a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (9) victory at the top of the order to round out the scoring for Washburn.

The Ichabods will host Bethel at the Washburn Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. on March 3.
