Ichabods blank both opponents in pair of wins on day 2 of WU Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod pitching staff tossed a pair of shutouts and as the lineup provided 17 hits in two games as the Ichabods picked up two more wins at the Washburn Invitational after shutting out Minnesota-Crookston 7-0 in the first game blanked Missouri-St. Louis in the finale in an 8-0 win ending in six innings. The Ichabods will play their final game of the weekend on Sunday at 11 a.m. against Southwest Minnesota State.
 
Game 1 – WU 7, Minnesota-Crookston 0
The Ichabods broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the fifth and added five more in the sixth rolling to the win. In the fifth after Kimi Patterson and Ellie Dixon both reached base, Washburn pinch hitter Bailey Zuniga crushed a double to left center staking the Ichabods to the 2-0 lead.
 
In the sixth, Washburn scored five more on an RBI single by Cassidy Greer and a bases-loaded walk by Dixon as the Ichabods took advantage of two wild pitches and Hadley Kerschen added an RBI on a ground out and Fuchs picked up an RBI after getting hit by a pitch.
 
Reagan Hamm struck out 11 in the circle allowing only three hits improving to 8-5 on the season. Washburn had seven hits in the game as Winter Henry and Ashton Friend each had two.
 
 
Game 2 – WU 8, Missouri-St. Louis 0 (6 innings)
The Ichabods scored three in the bottom of the first and that is all Ichabod starter Ashlie Thissen would need as she struck out six with one walk scattering five hits picking up her first win of the season tossing 5 2/3 innings as Hamm came into get the final out as the Ichabods cruised to the 8-0 win.
 
In the first, the Ichabods scored on a passed ball and a wild pitch and then Friend picked up an RBI with a ground out as the Washburn jumped out to the 3-0 lead. In the third, the Ichabods came back with three more with two coming on an RBI single by Greer scoring Bri Francis and Henry and then Jenna Moore scored on a single by Patterson as Washburn went up 6-0.
 
In the fifth, Greer drove in Francis who doubled and in the sixth Henry's double scored Kerchen who also doubled in the inning giving the Ichabods the 8-0 win.
 
Kerschen had three hits and Greer and Patterson each had two to pace the 10-hit attack in the win.
