WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Washburn Ichabods opened the 2020 season on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep falling 4-0 and 3-2 to Palm Beach Atlantic. The Ichabods will be back in action on Thursday when they will face another Sunshine State foe in Barry starting at 4 p.m. CST.
Game 1 – PBA 4, WU 0
The Sailfish (4-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning scoring two earned runs in the frame and added a solo run in the fifth leading to a 4-0 PBA win. Washburn was limited to four singles in the game coming off the bats of
Winter Henry,
Ashton Friend,
Kimi Patterson and
Samantha Dutton. After giving up three runs in the bottom of the first, Ichabod starter
Raegen Hamm would retire the next 10 batters before the Sailfish scored a solo run in the fifth. Washburn left nine baserunners on in the opener.
Game 2 – PBA 3, WU 2
The Ichabods took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when
Bri Francis hit a double to center field scoring
Samantha Dutton who le off the inning with a single of her own. PBA scored an unearned run in the third to tie the score at 1-1 and then added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth (one earned) going up 3-1. The Ichabods got one run back when
Kimi Patterson drew a lead-off walk and then
Paige Robbins would score as a pinch runner on a fielder's choice by
Ashton Friend.
Ashlie Thissen took the loss going the distance allowing one earned run with five strikeouts and no walks scattering six hits. Francis had a two of the Ichabods' seven hits in the game while Washburn stranded seven runners on the bases in game two.
