MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team continued its swing of eight games through the southeast falling in a pair of one-run decisions at Barry taking an 8-7 loss in the opener then suffering a 1-0 walk-off loss in the nightcap. The Ichabods will return to action on Saturday when they will face Nova Southeastern in a twinbill.
Game 1 – Barry 8, Washburn 7
The Ichabods jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when
Winter Henry scored on a double by
Ashton Friend. However the Buccaneers took advantage of one of three Ichabod errors in the opening game tying the game on an unearned run. The Ichabods bounced back with two runs in the second inning after Henry doubled down the left field line scoring
Cailey Oldemeyer who walked to lead off the inning and
Bri Francis who singled. Again the Buccaneers rallied scoring three runs in the bottom of the second taking a 4-3 lead.
Washburn went back in front with four runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Henry, Oldemeyer,
Brianna Fuchs and
Ellie Dixon putting the Ichabods (0-4) up 7-6 after three compete when Barry (4-2) scored two more runs in the bottom of the third. The Buccaneers took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs and the Ichabods remained scoreless the rest of the game taking the 8-7 loss.
Henry was 2 of 3 with 3 RBI and Oldemeyer and Francis each had two hits.
Jordan Hausher (0-1) pitched two innings in relief taking the loss.
Game 2 – Barry 1, Washburn 0
The Ichabods were limited to three hits in the finale as the Buccaneers pushed across the winning run with a one out single in the bottom of the seventh to sweep the doubleheader.
Henry, Oldemeyer and
Samantha Dutton collected hits for the Ichabods in the loss.
Ashlie Thissen tossed 6 1/3 innings scattering eight hits striking out two.
