BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team picked up its first win of the season after splitting a doubleheader at Lynn taking the first game 3-1 before seeing its rally fall short in the night cap in a 6-4 loss. The Ichabods will be back in action at the eight state classic starting Friday in Bentonville, Ark.
Game 1 – WU 3, Lynn 1
After the Fighting Knights scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Ichabods scored a run in the top of the second when
Brianna Fuchs doubled to left and scored
Hadley Kerschen tying the game. The Ichabods added another run in the fourth when Kerschen scored taking advantage of a Lynn error putting Washburn up 2-1. Washburn scored its last run in the fifth inning when
Jenna Moore's double to right scored
Winter Henry who led off the inning with a single.
Henry had two hits and Kerschen scored two runs while
Raegen Hamm improved to 1-2 pitching 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief striking out five giving up two hits.
Game 2 – Lynn 6, WU 4
Lynn took advantage of two Ichabod errors leading to four runs overall and three of which were unearned. The Ichabods came back with two runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Kerschen and a sac fly by
Ellie Dixon. Lynn added two more runs on unearned runs in the second and fifth innings. Washburn scored two runs in the sixth inning on a sac fly by
Ashton Friend and another RBI single by Henry. Washburn would strand two in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.
The Ichabods outhit the Fighting Knight 10 to 5 in the game, but five errors were too much to overcome in the loss. Kerschen had three hits in the game to lead the Ichabods and
Kimi Patterson scored twice. Hamm pitched the final 5 1/3 innings in relief allowing three hits with no earned runs and four strikeouts.
