Ichabods Score Three Unanswered Goals in Win Against Rogers State

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods came alive in the second half scoring three unanswered goals to defeat Rogers State 3-1. The Ichabods are now 2-0 against Rogers State in the all-time series.

At the start of the game, the Ichabods possessed the ball well and saw plenty of shot opportunities. In the first half, Washburn outshot Rogers State six to five with five of the six shots being on target. Unfortunately, it was the Hillcats who got on the board first. Hillcats' forward Kori Watters slipped the ball just past the foot of Washburn keeper Raegan Wells as Rogers State took the 1-0 lead into the half.

Wells and the Washburn defense gave the Hillcats trouble. The defense allowed just 10 shots attempted by the Hillcats (five each half) and all four shots-on-goal in the first half. Wells took a couple of hits but came away with the ball every time as she recorded two saves. Wells and the defense would not allow another goal for the rest of the 55 minutes.

It was in the second half, the Ichabods' offense contributed in a major way. In the 58th minute, Ichabods' forward Khloe Schuckman was fouled in the box for the second game in a row to set up a Tera Lynch penalty kick. Lynch sticking with the left side scored Washburn's first goal, tying the game at one apiece. Lynch is three for four on PKs this season which is the most penalty kicks made and attempted in a singles season in Washburn history. It also ties her with Jessica Mainz for most made PKs in a career and second in attempts.

Washburn stayed on the opponent's side of the field, forcing a corner kick in the 75th minute. Lynch's corner assisted Jadyn Allen in scoring her first career goal. Allen tallied two shots-on-goal and a score. The third and final Washburn goal came 12 minutes later. Another foul on Schuckman gave Lynch a free kick opportunity. Lynch placed it upper-90 and just out of reach for the Hillcats' keeper.

Lynch scored two goals on six shots with 4 shots on goal and an assist. She continues to move up Washburn's career lists as she is second in both shots-on-goal and assists and third in shots attempted. She also moved into the top 10 for goals with her 13th and 14th of her career.

The Ichabods will head on the road to face Newman on Friday, October 15th at 7 p.m.
