EDMOND, Okla. – Washburn soccer just falls short against Central Oklahoma losing 1-0. The Ichabods played well on the road in back-to-back games.
For the entire game, the Bronchos and Ichabods went back and forth both having their share of opportunities. Both took about the same number of shots taken in the half with Washburn shooting five times and Central Oklahoma shooting eight times. When the Ichabods shot a couple, the Bronchos would follow with a couple of their own.
The deciding moment of the game happened in the 39
th minute. Washburn fouled Central Oklahoma right outside the Washburn box for a free kick. Just like the Ichabods have taken advantage of free kicks so did the Bronchos as their defender Taryn Kedzoir strikes the ball into the bottom left corner.
Ichabods keeper
Raegan Wells continued her great week saving five shots while facing 20 shots (second-most on the year) and allowing just the one goal. The Washburn defense held a Bronchos offense to just two shots-on-goal in the half and six in the game. Washburn's defense despite letting up the goal did not let up.
On the season, Central Oklahoma averages almost 18 shots a game and it was more of the same against the Ichabods. The Bronchos shot 12 more times in the second half but only four were on target. For Washburn, forward
Khloe Schuckman came alive in the second shooting all four of her shots and three of them were on-goal, both led the team. However, the Ichabods could not tie the game.
The Ichabods head back to Yager Stadium for a three-game home stand. They look to remain unbeaten at home against No. 17 Central Missouri on Friday, October 22 at 6 p.m.
