No. 4 Washburn rolls to 3-0 win at Central Oklahoma

TOPEKA, Kan. – No. 4 Washburn posted a 3-0 road victory at Central Oklahoma on Friday evening. The Ichabods close out the week at Newman tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 30) afternoon at 3 p.m.
 
Washburn won by the set scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-20 and improve its record to 21-3 overall and a 13-2 mark in conference play.
 
Genna Berg started the match with a kill and the Ichabods never looked back in the opening set. Washburn pushed its lead to 20-11 after a 7-1 scoring run and Taylor Antonowich closed out the set victory with a service ace.
 
Washburn won the first point of the second frame, but the Bronchos (17-7, 10-6 MIAA) evened the score at one, two, and then four before Sydney Fitzgibbons hammered down a kill to put Washburn back in front. The Ichabods continued to create space with a 4-0 run midway through the game to go up, 14-9, and then a run of six-consecutive points put Washburn at set points, 24-16. Berg carded her fifth kill of the second set to give Washburn a 2-0 advantage in the match.
 
Central Oklahoma took control of the third set and led 8-6 when Washburn flipped the script and scored four points in a row to go in front, 10-8. The back-and-forth scoring continued and neither team led by more than two points while there were nine ties between 10-all and 19-all. Trailing 19-18, the Ichabods benefited from an attack error to level the score and then rattled off seven of the final eight points to complete their 15th sweep of the season.
 
Washburn finished the night with a .270 hitting percentage while Central Oklahoma finished with a .145 clip. The Ichabods led in kills, 49-34, and blocks, 8-3.
 
Berg recorded her fourth double-double of the year and led the Ichabods with 14 kills and 12 digs. Allison Maxwell was right behind with 13 kills with just one error and had a .545 hitting percentage. She was also a part of four blocks at the net. Antonowich scooped up 10 digs and knocked down seven kills.
 
Allison Sadler also notched a double-double, her seventh of the season, with 41 assists and 11 digs. Faith Rottinghaus led all players with 29 digs.
 
For the Bronchos, Courtney Lane had a team-high nine kills and also contributed nine digs.
