Washburn blanked in 3-0 loss at Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods were shutout Sunday afternoon in a 3-0 loss at Missouri Western.

The first half looked tight between both teams with a penalty kick being the difference. In the 12th minute, the Griffon's Lauren Street gave them the 1-0 lead with a successful penalty kick. Washburn's opponents in back-to-back games have scored its first goal via a PK. For the rest of the half, the Ichabods' defense was strong.

Washburn goalkeeper, Raegan Wells had 10 saves in net for the Ichabods. The Ichabods allowed the most shots and shot on goal in a single match all season with 21. Despite facing all those shots, Wells tallied 10 saves which is her most all season.

The game went all Griffons in the second half, and it didn't take long. In two minutes, Missouri Western scored its second goal of the afternoon. The Griffons' Jaden Skinner scored from outside of the box placing ball in the upper right corner of the goal. Skinner also scored the third and final goal in the 82nd minute. Missouri Western took 11 shots and seven shots on goal in the second half.

Washburn went from three shots in the first half to 10 in the second, but in two games in a row could not get a ball past the opponent's keeper.

The Ichabods will be back home in Yager Stadium next week as they try to get back to .500 in conference play. Their next opponent is Northeastern State on Friday, October 8 at 6 p.m.
