Topeka, Kan. – Washburn Soccer remains unbeaten at Yager Stadium, tying the Riverhawks 1-1. The Ichabods are now 3-0-2 at home this season.
Washburn controlled the first half of play, outshooting the Riverhawks six to two and keeping possession away from Northeastern. Out of those six shots, five of them were on goal as the Ichabods had a few good looks at the net. Despite this fact, no goals from either team were scored in the half.
In the second half, both teams went back and forth when it came to possession. The Ichabods got the advantage in the 65
th minute when the Riverhawks fouled Washburn's
Khloe Schuckman in the box to set up a penalty kick.
Tera Lynch was given the nod to attempt her third PK of the season. Lynch would attack left of the net to put the Ichabods in the lead. Lynch tied Mainz with the most penalty kicks made and attempted by a Washburn player in a single season. It also moved Lynch into second place for those same categories in career leaderboards.
The game seemed to turn as the Riverhawks did not give up. In the 78
th minute, Riverhawks' Callie Rucker crosses a ball from the right corner in front of the Ichabods' net, setting up Peyton Lieb for the tying goal. It was Rucker's team-leading fifth assist and Lieb's fourth goal of the season.
Washburn goalkeeper,
Raegan Wells, was busier in the second half as she faced nine shots in the second half including six on-goal. Wells ended the game with seven saves on 11 shots faced
The game remained tied even through overtime. Washburn came the closest in the first overtime period as the team took three on-goal shots
The Ichabods are 5-3-2 on the season and are back to defend Yager Stadium once again Sunday, October 10
th against Rogers State. It will be just the second time these two teams have competed against each other.
