HAYS, Kan. – Washburn soccer took a 2-0 loss to Fort Hays, finishing the regular season with a 9-6-2 record and a 5-5-1 conference record. They claimed the sixth seed in the MIAA tournament and will take on third-seeded Northwest Missouri.
Both Washburn and Fort Hays played great defense in the first half. No team took a shot until almost the 16
th minute when the Tigers took three shots in a minute. All three were on-goal but the first two were blocked before reaching the net. The Ichabods' forward
Khloe Schuckman took the only shot of the half for Washburn. Schuckman ended the day taking two shots with one on-target.
In the 35
th minute, Fort Hays' fifth and final shot of the half gave them the lead. Tigers' Jadyn Newell passed the ball into the corner for Hannah Mares, who then crossed it in front of the Washburn goal for Emily Hutchings to score the game-winner.
The Ichabods picked things up in the second half taking three shots with two on goal. Washburn's first shot came in the first five seconds of the half. Unfortunately, they were not able to score. Late in the second half, the Tigers extended their lead.
Washburn keeper,
Raegan Wells, played the first 45 minutes making two saves.
Graycn Evans took over in the second half, making another save. The Ichabods had 20 different players compete in the game.
The Ichabods season is not over as they earned a place in the MIAA tournament quarterfinals on Sunday, November 7. Washburn sits at the sixth seed at third-seeded Northwest Missouri at 1 p.m.
