TOPEKA, Kan. – Ichabods men's JV basketball team (3-3) got back to .500 with a win over the Ottawa Braves, 81-60. As a team, Washburn shot 45 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep.
Ichabods began the game with a 20-7 run over the Braves. However, the Braves fought back, making the game a four-point difference with under six minutes in the first half. Washburn responded with back-to-back threes.
Ty Abts led the team in the first half with eight points on 4-for-8 shooting. Washburn led Ottawa at the half, 34-22.
Mario King got the second half started with a three-pointer. Washburn and Ottawa traded buckets for the first 9 minutes of the half, keeping Washburn in a double-digit lead. Ichabods pushed into a 20-point lead with a three from
Jonah Doyle, followed by another three-pointer from Abts. For much of the final minutes, Ottawa drew Washburn fouls and got to the free-throw line. Despite those opportunities, the Braves could not capitalize, going 10-for-24 in second-half free throws.
Doyle had a stellar second-half with teammates in foul trouble. Doyle grabbed 10 points and was 2-for-2 from beyond the arch. Abt continued his solid game as he scored 13 for a total of 21 points for the game, which led the team.
Rohan Gupta led the team with 11 rebounds and scored seven for the Ichabods. Washburn outrebounded the Braves 54 to 32.
Ichabods go on a three-game road trip starting with Highland Community College on Monday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
