DENVER -- Wasburn baseball fell in both 7-inning games of a doubleheader at Regis on Saturday, dropping game one 12-6 before a 3-0 loss in the second game. The Ichabods will close out the four-game set against the Rangers tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. CST.
GAME ONE (REGIS 12-WASHBURN 6)
Regis wasted little time scoring as Roger Riley connected for a two-run homer after the leadoff batter was hit by the pitch to start the bottom of the first. The Rangers went up 4-0 after another two-run shot in the second.
Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli legged out a triple to start the third frame and then scored when
Parker Dunn followed that up with a double. Dunn reached third on a wild pitch with one out, but a strike out and fly out ended the inning.
The Rangers put together a huge inning in the home half of the third as they totaled seven runs on seven hits to take an 11-1 advantage. They tacked on one more run in the fourth.
Mark Wanner led off the sixth with a double down the left field line and reached home on
Otto Jones' single.
Wyatt Featherston sent a home run over the right field fence to make it a 12-4 game.
The Ichabods scored two final runs in the top of the seventh. With runners on second and third due to an error committed by Regis, Jones collect an RBI as he got
Chance Ragsdale home on a groundout. Featherston followed that up with a single to left field that scored Wanner.
Featherston was 2-4 and had three RBI. Coming off the bench as a pinch hitter,
Trevor McCollum made his first appearance for Washburn and went 2-3. Wanner had a hit and scored two runs.
GAME TWO (REGIS 3-WASHBURN 0)
The Rangers got on the board first again, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. They added two more in the third to go up, 3-0. The Ichabods had a runner in scoring position with one out in the top of the sixth, but back-to-back strikeouts left him stranded at second base.
Brett Ingram finished the game 3-3 at the plate, hitting three singles.
Sean McElwee made his Ichabod debut in relief and tossed 3.2 innings and gave up just one hit, one walk, and struck out four.
