TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn men's tennis team swept William Jewell, 7-0, in their home opener on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Ichabods improve to 2-1 and the Cardinals fall to 3-4. 
 
In doubles competition, the duo of Raul-Alin Dicu and Daniel Bird started things off as they defeated their opponents, 6-1, from the third spot in the lineup. Miquel Perez and Sebastian Pjontek secured the doubles point as they won their match with a score of 6-2 from the No. 1 spot. Paul Haase and Bradley Eidenmueller then ensured the doubles sweep by defeating their opponents, 6-4, from the second spot.
 
From the No. 3 spot in singles competition, Bird defeated his opponent with scores of 6-1 and 6-2 to earn his first singles win as an Ichabod. Miller Zeiders then followed from the fifth spot to defeat his opponent 6-0 and 6-2. Marc Roura Casi took down his opponent with both scores of 6-1 from the fourth spot in the lineup. After an extended tough battle against his opponent, Perez overcame his Cardinal foe with scores of 6-2, 2-6, and 6-4 from the No. 2 spot. Raul-Alin Dicu followed in Perez's footsteps as he persevered in a tough matchup to take down his opponent with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 6-2 from the top of the lineup. Luke Howard closed out singles competition from the No. 6 spot and secured the sweep as he defeated his opponent, 6-3 and 6-0.
 
The Ichabods travel to Tulsa, Okla., to face Southeastern Oklahoma State on Feb. 27. The match is set for 2 p.m. at LaFortune Park.
